HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM ELIGIBLE TO FLY AS A VETERAN? If you served in any branch prior to 1975 and were honorably discharged, you are eligible. You are also eligible if you served in any era and have a life-limiting illness. If you have any questions, fill out an application and we will confirm your eligibility with you.
IF I APPLIED LAST YEAR AND WAS PUT ON THE WAITLIST DO I NEED TO APPLY AGAIN? You will be given automatic priority for the next mission, however, we will need you to update the application on file. Reach out to our Veteran leader if you have any specific questions: Veterans@honorflightcfa.org.
DO I NEED TO HAVE A GUARDIAN? Yes, all Veterans will have a "battle buddy" for the day. You may choose to invite a relative or friend to accompany you, or you will be assigned a volunteer from the community.
I WALK WITH A CANE OR WALKER, CAN I STILL GO? Yes, we provide mobility assistance equipment for all of our Veterans since it is quite a long day, and we cover a lot of territory in a short time.
CAN MY SPOUSE BE MY GUARDIAN? No, we do not permit spouses or significant others to travel with the Veteran.
CAN MY GRANDCHILD BE MY GUARDIAN? Absolutely, we encourage adult children and grandchildren to accompany Veterans on the trip. Minors may be permitted as well, with parental approval and additional assessment.
WHY DO GUARDIANS HAVE TO PAY A FEE? We ask guardians to make a donation to HFCFA to help offset the costs of the mission. There are no additional fees beyond the guardian donations.
DO I HAVE TO PAY THE GUARDIAN FEE WHEN I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION? Applications are not considered complete without the donation. That said, you can apply, and inform the HFCFA guardian leader of what kind of timeline you will be able to make the donation.
WHAT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS? Reach out by phone or email to the HFCFA team and we will assist you.
